Takia Angus

Takia is a licensed clinical psychologist in both Ontario and Alberta. She is also completing a clinical psychology Doctorate at California Southern University. Takia received a Master of Counselling degree specializing in counselling psychology from the University of Calgary. Takia has been working in the mental health and counselling field since 2007 and has experience working with individuals of all ages. She has provided mental health services in multiple settings including government and community agencies.

Takia offers individual psychotherapy for children, adolescents and adults. Takia’s areas of practice and experience include counselling for OCD, anxiety, ADHD, ASD, child behavioural problems, depression, emotion regulation, low self-esteem, parenting support, relationship issues, stress, substance abuse and trauma.

Takia has worked with individuals with OCD with a wide range of presenting issues. These have included individuals presenting with obsessions and compulsions related to contamination, symmetry, perfectionism, and ‘just right’ feelings. When working with individuals with OCD, she uses CBT interventions, with an emphasis on ERP and exposure therapy.

Takia’s theoretical orientation is trauma informed and primarily Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT) based. She utilizes evidence-based treatments backed by scientific research. Her therapy is tailored towards individual needs and she also incorporates various other approaches when clinically indicated, such as Solution Focused Therapy, Motivational Interviewing and Play Therapy. Takia is also trained in EMDR and CPT for treatment of trauma. Takia emphasizes a collaborative and client-centered approach and closely works together with the client on their journey to healing.

Takia views herself as a catalyst helping individuals reach their maximum potential. She believes every individual is unique, resilient, and has the capacity to grow and reach their full potential, given the right support.

In her leisure time, Takia enjoys spending time with her family, travelling and reading.
