We are pleased to offer professional consultation to interested clinicians seeking guidance around specific clinical issues or areas of further skill development.

Our consultation services have largely focused on further development within the treatment of OCD, with an emphasis on CBT for OCD as well as the integration of ACT and mindfulness skills.

What Psychology Training is Offered at FTPS?

If you are looking for training in clinical psychology, consider joining FTPS!

We are delighted to provide various training opportunities for psychology students at all different levels. 

We offer practicum placements to students at the Masters or PhD level. We are also pleased to supervise students during their supervised practice year for the College of Psychologists of Ontario as well as for the College of Psychologists of British Columbia.

It is very important to receive comprehensive psychology training when you are learning new treatment approaches. At FTPS, our clinical psychology training program includes supervision, didactic seminars, team meetings and ongoing team consultation.

It is very important to us that your psychology training goals and learning objectives are met. This is discussed when you reach out to us so we can ensure you will receive the best experience possible!

Supervision is provided in both individual and group settings to allow for enhanced learning from others and individualized teaching time. All associates have access to a resourceful shared drive that provides comprehensive information on a multitude of assessment and treatment interventions.

Supervision sessions will provide you with learnings regarding different theoretical orientations (CBT, ACT, DBT, I-CBT for OCD), treatment planning, opportunities for role play and clinical problem-solving. Your supervisor will also be available in-between formal supervision sessions for any concerns you may have. 

 Some individuals completing their training in clinical psychology are looking to engage in both intervention and psychodiagnostic assessment opportunities. Assessment experiences are an important part of one’s training to be a clinical psychologist. At FTPS you can pursue psychological clinical training in both intervention and assessment experiences!

We offer a variety of psychodiagnostic assessment packages for individuals at FTPS. This allows our clients to be able to choose whether they want a brief assessment or something more comprehensive.

If you are looking for training in clinical psychology to work with either adolescents or adults, we can provide that! We also provide opportunities to learn the delivery of interventions in both individual and group settings.

What is the Team Experience Like at FTPS?

Clinicians who are training at FTPS will have the opportunity to work in a multidisciplinary collaborative group practice. Associates in the practice include psychologists, social workers, family therapist/parenting coach, psychotherapist, occupational therapists and doctoral level therapists.

All associates have access to a resourceful shared drive that provides comprehensive information on a multitude of assessment and treatment interventions. During your clinical psychology training at FTPS, you will have access to all our resources. This will aid you in self-directed learning as well as having templates and handouts to use as part of your clinical work.

Psychology Training

We all meet once a month to discuss challenging cases, collaborate and socialize. We also love to have fun together as a team! We get together for fun social outings throughout the year!

Training in clinical psychology is a rigorous process. There are a multitude of requirements to become a psychologist in Canada. Individuals must complete a Bachelor’s degree, which is often 4 years due to a thesis requirement. Individuals will then complete a 2 year Master’s degree followed by a PhD in psychology. Overall, individuals will generally complete 5-8 years of education following their Bachelor’s degree. 

As part of graduate psychology training, individuals will also complete practicum training experiences. These provide direct clinical experiences that are supported by supervision.  Following graduate training, individuals will complete supervised practice requirements. These are fairly similar throughout Canada. Individuals will have to complete a series of licensure exams as well as complete hundreds of hours of supervised experience. 

Completing psychology education and training to become a clinical psychologist is a long process. This is important because psychologists work with individuals with mental health issues. In order to be able to carry out this work, individuals must be well-trained in evidence-based interventions. This ensures that individuals are receiving appropriate care and that it is being delivered by skilled professionals.

There are many graduate clinical psychology training programs in Canada. They offer comprehensive psychology training experiences. Graduate psychology training programs are an important part of how one trains to become a psychologist. During graduate school, you will complete a variety of essential clinical coursework that will prepare you to deliver clinical assessments and interventions.

You will also receive practical training experiences that allow you to learn how to deliver interventions and help individuals on their road to recovery. Training as a clinical psychologist requires dedication and commitment to learning. Registered psychologists also continue to learn and grow as that is an essential part of being a healthcare professional. It is a very important professional as psychologists have the privilege of being able to help other individuals achieve their goals and live a meaningful life.
