What Psychology Training is Offered at FTPS?

We are delighted to provide various training opportunities for psychology students at all different levels.

We offer practicum placements to students at the Masters or PhD level. We are also pleased to supervise students during their supervised practice year for the College of Psychologists of Ontario as well as for the College of Psychologists of British Columbia.

It is very important to receive comprehensive psychology training when you are learning new treatment approaches. At FTPS, our clinical psychology training program includes supervision, didactic seminars, team meetings and ongoing team consultation.

It is very important to us that your psychology training goals and learning objectives are met. This is discussed when you reach out to us so we can ensure you will receive the best experience possible!

Supervision is provided in both individual and group settings to allow for enhanced learning from others and individualized teaching time. All associates have access to a resourceful shared drive that provides comprehensive information on a multitude of assessment and treatment interventions.

Supervision sessions will provide you with learnings regarding different theoretical orientations (CBT, ACT, DBT, I-CBT for OCD), treatment planning, opportunities for role play and clinical problem-solving. Your supervisor will also be available in-between formal supervision sessions for any concerns you may have.

Some individuals completing their training in clinical psychology are looking to engage in both intervention and psychodiagnostic assessment opportunities. Assessment experiences are an important part of one’s training to be a clinical psychologist. At FTPS you can pursue psychological clinical training in both intervention and assessment experiences!

We offer a variety of psychodiagnostic assessment packages for individuals at FTPS. This allows our clients to be able to choose whether they want a brief assessment or something more comprehensive.

If you are looking for training in clinical psychology to work with either adolescents or adults, we can provide that! We also provide opportunities to learn the delivery of interventions in both individual and group settings.

Why Join the Forward Thinking Psychological Services® Team?

Professionals who are working and training at FTPS will have the opportunity to work in a multidisciplinary collaborative group practice. Associates in the practice include psychologists, social workers, a family therapist/parenting coach and doctoral level therapists.

We all meet once a month to discuss challenging issues and collaborate. During meetings we learn and support each other. For example, our psychologists often share insights on assessment and diagnosis as well as recommendations for complex treatment situations regarding OCD, anxiety and more. Our social workers also bring years of experience regarding family systems and important dynamics within families with OCD. We all gain valuable insight from our peers. For example, clinicians at FTPS are able to observe how different disciplines approach the same client presentation, learning valuable skills such as implementation of DBT skills or I-CBT interventions. Every discussion allows for cross-training, resource sharing and growth.

All associates are part of our resourceful shared drive that provides comprehensive information on a multitude of assessment and treatment interventions. Whether you are a new clinical trainee or a seasoned professional, you will have access to essential resources that will aid your self-directed learning and assist you with templates and handouts to use as part of your clinical work.

Our collaborative approach means you’re never stuck. Whether you need a second opinion or want to brainstorm treatment adjustments, the team becomes your clinical safety net. We connect in many different ways and our current associates have let us know that they love being connected to the team.

We also love to have fun together as a team! We get together for fun social outings throughout the year!
