Katie Wicik (she/her)

Katie Wicik is a therapist in supervised practice (RSW & RMFT-SM) whose services include parent coaching, couples therapy and family therapy. Katie has completed the Couple and Family Therapy Studies Advanced Certificate with distinction at the University of Guelph and Canadian Association for Couple and Family Therapy (CACFT). She is currently adding to her breath of knowledge by studying social work at Thompson River University. She completed an M.Ed with distinction in Special Education and Counselling from Brock University and a B.A. (Hons) from the University of Toronto in Psychoanalytic Thought and Sociology. Currently, Katie is an Associate Member with the CACFT Canadian Association for Couple and Family Therapy (RMFT Registered Marriage and Family Therapist track) and a member of the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association.
Katie has over 25 years of mental health, addictions, neurodiversity and 2SLGBTQIA+ affirming support working in hospital, educational, community, and private practice settings. Her work with individuals, couples and families includes a range of presenting issues such as OCD, hoarding, anxiety, depression, neurodiversity, giftedness, life transitions (i.e., separation or divorce), grief, loss and betrayal.
Katie’s work during couples and families therapy is tailored to a variety of presenting issues that may impact relationships. In particular, Katie’s focus in therapy is often when one partner is affected by their loved one’s mental health issues. Katie also is able to work with one partner (in a couple) when the other partner might not be open to treatment. This may also be a compliment to individual therapy that an individual is receiving at Forward Thinking.
Therapeutic approaches that Katie draws on include Emotionally-Focused Therapy (for couples and families), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Psychodynamic Therapy, Eco therapy. and Therapeutic/Expressive Writing. Katie also pays close attention to the role of self-compassion when working with couples and families.
Katie is also a published author who has teaching and research experience in University, College, and hospital settings in addition to providing supervision to students. Katie has been a mental health media specialist and highlighted in various media outlets. Throughout her career she has served on several Board of Directors in addition to executive and philanthropic committees that have a focus on women and children, healthcare, and community.
