Amanda Wyman

MA, Doctoral Candidate

Amanda is pursuing her Ph.D.in Clinical Psychology at York University. She previously completed her Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology at York University and her Bachelor of Arts at the University of Guelph. Amanda is in a therapist role at Forward Thinking Psychological Services.

Amanda has provided treatment for individuals with a wide variety of issues, including OCD, depression, social anxiety, general anxiety disorder, emotion regulation, attentional difficulties, ADHD, executive functioning issues, self-esteem and career/academic concerns at the York University Psychology Clinic and Roncesvalles Psychology Clinic.

Amanda has also provided clinical services and assessments at North York General Hospital Adult Eating Disorders program, where she worked with individuals with Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder and Avoidant-Restrictive Food Intake Disorder.

Amanda has provided assessment services for WSIB and Axia Health for mood disorders, anxiety disorders, phobias, PTSD and somatic symptom disorder.

Amanda has worked with individuals with OCD with a variety of concerns, including obsessional thoughts related to doubting, harm to oneself and others, dirt/germs/contamination, and feeling “just right,” and compulsions related to checking, cleaning/washing, repeating, and mental rituals. In her work with individuals with OCD, she delivers Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Interventions, including Exposure and Response Prevention. She is also able to provide Inference-Based CBT for OCD.

In terms of her clinical practice, Amanda delivers evidence-based treatments including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Exposure and Response Prevention, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Emotion-Focused Therapy and Motivational Interviewing. She works from a highly collaborative and integrative approach.

In addition to her clinical practice, Amanda is an emotion researcher, interested in the motivational value of emotions that can drive us into destructive behaviour or towards self-actualization. She is also a graduate member of the Ontario Psychological Association.

In her leisure time, she enjoys playing piano, painting and taking walks in nature.
