Katherine McGuire (she/her)
MA, PhD Student Therapist
Katherine McGuire is currently completing her PhD in Clinical Psychology at Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU). She also completed her master’s degree in Clinical Psychology at TMU, where she has received experience in providing evidence-based assessment and treatment. She previously obtained her undergraduate degree from York University, where she majored in Psychology. She is currently working at Toronto Metropolitan University at the Centre for Student Development and Counselling, where she provides treatment services to individuals experiencing a range of mental health issues, including anxiety, depression, trauma, and identity challenges.
Katherine has experience providing assessment and treatment services for individuals with diverse identities and complex mental health needs at St. Michael’s Hospital. She worked with individuals who presented with a wide range of mental health concerns, including rumination and intrusive thoughts, anxiety (generalized, health, social), PTSD and trauma-related concerns, identity challenges, bipolar disorder, substance use difficulties, and persistent and major depressive disorders. She welcomes individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds, identities, and lived experiences, and employs a trauma-informed and neuro-affirming lens to ensure she adapts all treatment she provides to honour the experiences of those she works with.
At FTPS, she welcomes both adults and emerging adults of all social identities and backgrounds. She has a special interest in working with people experiencing OCD symptoms, body-focused repetitive behaviours, generalized anxiety, social anxiety, chronic worry, and emotion regulation difficulties. Katherine also provides comprehensive psychodiagnostic assessments, adult ADHD assessments, and adult autism spectrum assessments.
Katherine strives to create a warm, collaborative, and non-judgmental therapeutic environment. Her therapeutic approach is grounded in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and she often integrates elements of Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) to tailor treatment to each client’s goals, strengths, and needs. When working with individuals with OCD, she is able to provide ERP-based CBT interventions as well as Inference-Based CBT for OCD. She is committed to providing evidence-based care that honours every individual’s lived experience and supports meaningful, sustained change.
Katherine has a particular interest in women’s health, including perinatal anxiety and depression. Her research focuses on women’s experiences of fertility challenges, trauma and adversity, and motherhood. Across her clinical and research work, she aims to advance compassionate, informed care for individuals navigating reproductive stressors.
In her free time, Katherine enjoys camping and hiking in the summer, snowboarding in the winter, and spending time with her three dogs year-round.
