Robyn Lam

PsyD, C. Psych. (Supervised Practice)

Robyn Lam has completed her Doctor of Psychology degree in Clinical Psychology at Adler University in Vancouver.  Robyn’s doctoral research focused on long term client outcomes in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT). Robyn is currently a psychologist in supervised practice with the College of Psychologists and Behavioural Analysts of Ontario.

Robyn provides both psychodiagnostic assessments and therapy to adults and adolescents at Forward Thinking. As an assessor and a clinician, Robyn cares deeply about the work she does with her clients, both in the process and in the outcomes. She strives to facilitate a way forward for clients with hope and clarity.

At Forward Thinking, Robyn has worked with individuals with different themes of OCD, including illness thoughts, relationship-related thoughts, sexual-related-thoughts, harm-related thoughts, uncertainty, checking rituals, as well as feelings of “just rightness”, orderliness, symmetry and perfectionism. Robyn takes a collaborative approach when working with individuals with OCD and adheres to evidence-based interventions. These include ERP-based CBT interventions as well as Inference-Based CBT for OCD. Robyn also used Acceptance and Commitment Therapy to ensure exposure work aligns with people’s values and goals.

Robyn also has a special interest in working with individuals experiencing obsessive-compulsive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorder, panic disorder, intrusive thoughts, existential issues, mood-related issues, substance use, life transitions, and intimate relationship issues. Her theoretical orientation is grounded in well-researched, evidence-based approaches, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT). She also embraces person-centered, feminist, and existential perspectives, allowing space for both practical skill-building and deeper exploration of meaning, values, and lived experience.

For over a decade, Robyn has worked with diverse groups of clients to address various forms of anxiety and mood issues in private practice, clinics (DBT Vancouver), and community/hospital outpatient settings (SickKids Community Mental Health in Toronto and St. Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver). Outside of direct clinical practice, she has taught family therapy and provided clinical supervision to clinicians and graduate/medical students, and served as an Adjunct Lecturer with the University of Toronto’s Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work. At present, she is a facilitator at the SickKids CCMH Learning Institute, providing training to clinicians on working with adolescents using DBT.

In addition, Robyn also has extensive experience providing psychodiagnostic, psychoeducational, and integrative assessments for a variety of concerns, including OCD, GAD, OCPD, ADHD, ASD, PTSD, and mood and anxiety disorders.

Robyn takes a warm and collaborative stance in therapy and ensures that individuals feel safe and confident to learn new skills and better understand their obsessional doubts, anxiety and emotions.
